El Rio
El Rio is comprised of Los Angeles locals, Bryan Diaz and Melissa Uribe. Inspired by the urban and natural landscape of the Los Angeles River, the Highlands along the Arroyo Seco and the red tailed hawks that fly above our heads, El Rio evokes sounds and energies of the earth. Their words are of resistance and revolution expressed through Latin American folk rhythms in a lyrical dance that unifies their past and present through song. In solidarity with communities fighting and resisting oppression worldwide, El Rio aims to provoke thought and change through music.
Red Hill Quartet
The Red Hill Quartet is an eclectic Los Angeles based jazz group comprised of top musicians from varied backgrounds who have come together to create the music they want to play. The members bring the influences of African, Indian, and Middle Eastern music while being solidly entrenched in the jazz tradition.
This unique blend has generated enthusiastic response from traditional jazz audiences as well as those who never considered themselves jazz fans. The band has been playing clubs, concerts, and festivals in the Los Angeles area and their most recent CD, “Analog Man in a Digital World” is getting international airplay.
Triosphere
Triosphere is a group of three L.A. musicians from various interesting backgrounds combining to create spontaneous music. Bert Karl, Triosphere’s drummer, is Austrian born and has spent time studying the myriad facets of drumming in his native Austria, Brazil, New York and Los Angeles and has played with Wild Bill Davis, Mike Garson, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Bradford, Vinny Golia, Mike Vlatcovitch, Nels Cline and many other luminaries and joins Michael Alvidrez (upright bass) and Vince Meghrouni (woodwinds) to create music in the moment through free-improvisation.

Special Guest
Stella the Steelhead
FoLAR’s 2014 Los Angeles River cleanup inspired The FLOD Art Collective, a group of artists, poets, musicians, bike freaks, and river philosophers, to construct Stella, a large steelhead trout. It’s made from bamboo, palm, salvaged lumber, an extension ladder, baby jogger wheels, paper mache’, rags, paint, tomato cages, and washed out discards from the LA River.
Stella the Steelhead has Migrated to the Frog Spot for the summer – come and visit.
