20 Dec FoLAR Board of Directors Approves New Chairperson Natasha Keefer and Treasurer M-K O’Connell
FoLAR’s Board of Directors oversees our organization’s strategic goals, activities and programs, and offers our team their breadth of expertise to help us achieve our mission: building capacity for communities, students, and future leaders to advocate for nature, climate, and equity on the LA River. This quarter, our board has confirmed Natasha Keefer as FoLAR’s new Chairperson of the Board and M-K O’Connell as Treasurer of the Board.
Natasha Keefer has spent over a decade working in energy and water sustainability, with experience working with public and private stakeholders to implement measurable environmental and social outcomes. She is currently the Head of Origination and Power Marketing within the Energy and Sustainability offering at Prologis, a leader in logistics real estate well known for its commitment to sustainable development. In this role, Natasha leads in front of the meter solar and storage offerings to utilities, community choice aggregators, and grid communities.
A resident of Frogtown, Natasha joined FoLAR’s Advisory Board in 2018 and joined the Board of Directors in 2017 after attending several River CleanUps with FoLAR. In her new role as Chairperson, she hopes to ensure that the Board serves as a resource for FoLAR’s staff and provides guidance on the direction of the organization so that we can continue to execute on our ambitious 5-year strategic plan.
“FoLAR is a lean team tackling big issues on the River. We’ve accomplished so much in 2022, but in particular, I am so proud of the growth we’ve had in our Education programs and look forward to continuing to grow our outreach to youth in Los Angeles even further,” said Keefer.
M-K O’Connell first joined FoLAR’s Advisory Board as a financial advisor in 2010. After reading an op-ed by FoLAR’s late founder Lewis MacAdams, he sought to support FoLAR’s vision of a more verdant LA River. As the Managing Director of M2O since 2009, he has focused on managing team transitions and helping entrepreneurs source acquisition opportunities.
As treasurer of the board, O’Connell is committed to maintaining FoLAR’s finances in a healthy place that ensures the organization can fund and execute its strategic priorities. He looks forward to working with CEO Candice Dickens-Russell to implement FoLAR’s strategic priorities.
“I’m thrilled that the leadership of the organization—Natasha and Candice—lives adjacent to the River and has a deep understanding of the opportunities and threats as we reimagine our namesake River,” said O’Connell.
