Become a FoLAR Member

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Because we are a small team, we only ship membership gifts once per month around the 15th.If you become a member through our one-time donation option, you can expect to receive your thank you items by the end of that month. For example, if you become a member on the 1st, your gifts will ship on or around the 15th of that month. If you become a member on the 20th, your gifts will ship on our around the 15th of the following month.
If you become a member through our monthly or quarterly donation options, you can expect to receive your thank you items after we’ve processed your donation up to the value of your thank you gifts.
All memberships – for both one-time donation and quarterly donation options – will be added to FoLAR’s Member Exclusive newsletter upon their acceptance as a member.

Organizational Membership
Businesses, nonprofits, and community groups can amplify their impact by becoming an Organizational Member of FoLAR. This membership is a way to demonstrate your leadership in environmental sustainability and your organization’s commitment to your community. Your team will also have opportunities to participate in fun group volunteer days and team-building CleanUps. Organizational Members are also recognized on our website and at FoLAR events, highlighting your commitment to a thriving LA River.
When your organization joins FoLAR, you become part of the LA River story. With your support, the LA River can be a vibrant, verdant place for people, wildlife, and future generations to enjoy.

At FoLAR, events are all about bringing people together to experience the LA River in meaningful ways. Whether you are getting your hands dirty at a Habitat Restoration Day, celebrating River culture at River Fest, or spotting wildlife at Bats and Brews, our events are designed to connect you to the River and the community that cares for it. We believe the best way to protect the River is to experience it, so come hang out with us and see for yourself what makes this place so special.
JOIN THE RIVER CREW
The only way that the LA River can thrive is when people show up for it. Volunteering with FoLAR is a hands-on way to make a real impact while connecting with nature and your community. Whether you are restoring habitat, picking up trash, or supporting our staff at an event, you are helping to build a healthier River for everyone.
We offer a variety of ways to get involved:
- Habitat Restoration Days – Work alongside ecologists to remove invasive species and plant native vegetation, creating healthier ecosystems for local wildlife.
- Community Events – Help out as auxiliary staff at River Fest, educational programs, and other public events that bring people to the River.
- Volunteer Your Skills – Whether you are a photographer, writer, artist, or have another skill to share, we welcome volunteers who can help expand our reach and impact.
- The Great LA River CleanUp – Join thousands of Angelenos in the largest urban river cleanup in the country, removing plastic pollution and debris before it reaches the ocean.
- Represent FoLAR – Join us at community events, helping with outreach and education by tabling on behalf of FoLAR and sharing our mission with the public.
No experience is necessary—just a willingness to get involved. Whether you come solo or bring a group, volunteering is a great way to take action for the River while meeting like-minded people.
