06 Sep Off Tha' Hook 2016
Thank you to all of our sponsors for making FoLAR’s Third Annual Catch & Release Fish Derby – “Off Tha’ Hook” a huge success. The event took place at California State Parks Bowtie Parcel this past Saturday, September 3rd, over the Labor Day weekend. This event helped gather the community around the Los Angeles River and learn River Fishing Stewardship.
Biologists from the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains were at the event to weigh, measure, and catalog every fish prior to release into the LA River. The data we collected will serve as an addendum to our 2008 Fish Study.
Thanks to the Los Angeles River Rover and the FoLAR education team for helping close to 200 kids learn about our river. Big thanks to Patagonia, Atwater Village Neighborhood Council, Tree People, Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill, Council for Watershed Health, Glendale Harley-Davidson, Downey Flyfishers, Pasadena Casting Club, Stillwater Sciences, and the Los Angeles Rod and Reel Club.
A big thank you to Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo for providing much needed shade and tables for this years event.
Congratulations to Ken Morris & Mary Jane Garcia (pictured above) for their winning fish!
There were about 18 fish caught in total, Largemouth Bass, Green Sunfish, Gambusia, Tilapia, Carp and the Mississippi Silverside.
“The Biodiversity of fish in the Los Angeles River is amazing and we are welcoming back the elusive Steelhead Trout, yet they have not yet answered our call.” – Lewis MacAdams, Founder/President FoLAR
