LA Noria – the LA River Water Wheel by Metabolic Studio and Lauren Bon
The LA River water wheel LA Noria is the centerpiece of Bending the River Back into the City a proposed three part sculpture; a dam that will sit in the LA River that connects to a diversion canal bending the water back into the city via a waterwheel, LA Noria, as a reference to the waterwheels operating on and around the site in the 19th century. Once brought up, the water will become part of a distribution network, The Delta of Mount Whitney. The Delta will deliver water to individuals, organizations, and institutions in the city’s first water commons, to allow the currency of water to create social capital. At the Fandango we’ll exhibit a striking 15′ model of the water wheel LA Noria.
Piggyback Yard Conceptual Design by Mia Lehrer + Associates
A mile of riverfront along downtown Los Angeles’ River is the Union Pacific Railroad’s Piggyback Yard, an intermodal facility that has remained isolated and inaccessible from the river. Mia Lehrer sees a different future. Mia Lehrer + Associates has led the City in developing a transformative vision of the Piggyback Yard. At the Fandango she is sharing her vision in a stunning model that enshrines the Piggyback Yard’s future as LA’s “Central Park”.
New Sixth Street Viaduct by Michael Maltzan
The loss of the 1932 Sixth St Viaduct to decay could have been a complete tragedy depriving Los Angeles of a treasured landmark. Michael Maltzan changed that when his instantly iconic design won the FoLAR sponsored international design contest to replace the 1932 viaduct. Known as “The Ribbon of Light” the new Los Angeles Sixth Street Viaduct is a transformative infrastructure project which unites the Boyle Heights community to the east and the Arts District and Downtown to the west. At the Fandango we’re exhibiting a massive – 70′ – model of this new LA icon.
