02 Oct 30 Days to Make a Difference
A message from FoLAR President Lewis MacAdams
Friends,
We have just 30 days to make a difference for the LA River. The public comment period for the Army Corp’s recommendation on Alternative 20, a $1.35 billion dollar plan to break the concrete and restore 11 miles of the LA River, is open until November 1st. Now is the time for you to stand with us and demand a fair – 50/50 – share for the LA River.
Go to FoLAR.org/action and call for a fair – 50/50 – share for the LA River
Last July, the US Army Corps Civil Works Review Board unanimously adopted Alternative 20 – a $1.35 billion plan to break up the concrete and restore 11 miles of LA River habitat – as their Recommended Plan. What they didn’t approve is a commitment to pay a fair 50/50 share of the cost. Without that commitment it’s not a $1.35 billion gift to Los Angeles – it’s a bill for hundreds of millions of dollars the City and people of Los Angeles will have to pay.
Last year Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Jo-Ellen Darcy recommended that the Army Corps and Federal Government should pay their fair share of this project – a true 50/50 – to restore the LA River. We agree with the Secretary and the time has come for the Army Corps to formally make that commitment.
We only have 30 days – I need you to make your voice heard now. Call on the Army Corps and ask them to commit to a paying a fair share to restore the Los Angeles River.
Please go to FoLAR.org/action and send your message to the Army Corps today.
