02 May Thank You, River Stewards!
By Marissa Christiansen, Executive Director
River Friends,
This weekend we wrapped up the third and final day of the Great LA River CleanUp. With 10,000 volunteers removing over 100 tons of trash from the LA River, the largest urban river cleanup in America was a stunning success thanks to the support of our incredible community. From our soft-bottom hearts, THANK YOU LOS ANGELES!
This effort is an inspiring demonstration of the power of community and shows how far the River Movement has come. This is what Friends of the LA River is, this is what we do. We bring Angelenos together along all 51 miles of the LA River to make our community better. Over 200 community groups and partners from all across the region joined us. From aerospace engineers in the San Fernando Valley to church groups in Compton, our volunteers represent the spirit of stewardship, diversity, and innovation that defines Los Angeles. Angelenos are a powerful people and when 10,000 of us come together there is nothing we can’t accomplish.
Thanks to supporters like you, we’ve left our river habitat 100 tons of trash cleaner, beautified unique recreation and open space, and have prevented 100 tons of trash from reaching our ocean. That is the power of the LA River Community and we’re not stopping here.
Whether you participated in the CleanUp or were unable to make it, you know how impactful FoLAR’s work is. Please make a $15, $25 or $50 contribution today at FOLAR.org/donate.
There is so much work to be done to restore our River, but all of you give me faith that not only will it happen, it’s happening right now. That’s cause for celebration! Please join us on May 28th as we open the Frog Spot for the 2017 recreation season.
Thank you, and see you on the River!
