16 Jul $1.3 Billion LA River Restoration Plan Approved
In a tremendous victory for the Los Angeles River the US Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Review Board unanimously approved Alternative 20 – a $1.3 billion plan to shatter the concrete and restore habit along 11 miles of the Los Angeles River.
“This is a great victory.”
Lewis MacAdams
FoLAR President Lewis MacAdams traveled to Washington DC and joined Mayor Garcetti in representing the people and River of Los Angeles at the hearing where this momentous decisions was made.
Friends of the Los Angeles River championed this once-in-a-generation project. First, by raising $1 million for the Army Corps to complete the ARBOR study, then by fighting for the adoption of Alternative 20 – the most comprehensive plan recommended in the study – by the City of Los Angeles and the local district of the Army Corps.
While we are celebrating this milestone for the Los Angeles River, its wildlife and the people in this region, we remain vigilant – leading the charge to turn the dream of a restored River habitat into reality.
