City Nature Challenge BioBliz!
April 26 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join FoLAR and LA Zoo’s Education team at Frogtown Brewery to learn how to use iNaturalist and make observations at the LA River! iNaturalist is a nature app that helps you identify the plants and animals around you while generating data for science and conservation. Get connected with a community of millions scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature! The City Nature Challenge started off as a friendly competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco to see which city had the most wildlife and now is a worldwide community science project! The City Nature Challenge happens every year in April, and this year it will start on Friday, April 26 and ends on Sunday, April 28.
What you will do as apart of this exciting challenge:
- Observations will be recorded through the iNaturalist app, which we’ll show you how to use at Frogtown Brewery! Training will be provided before the start of the event once participants are checked in
- You’ll join FoLAR and LA Zoo educators for a guided BioBlitz walk along the LA River while adding observations to the challenge
- There will be two groups – one group will go up stream and one group will go down stream. Binoculars will be provided and we will make stops to make nature observations!
