About this Event

Join Friends of the Los Angeles River for our first Community Science Training! This training will provide you the tools to assist us in surveying the bird population of the Sepulveda Basin. No experience necessary and refreshments will be provided!

What’s a Bird Survey?

A bird survey collects data to gain insight on the bird population of a certain area. Some of the data collected includes identifying bird species, counting the number of individuals, and describing bird activity and habitats.

What to Expect:

This training will be led by biologist, Tom Ryan, who will deliver a presentation to go over the bird species and methods in conducting bird surveys. Materials will be provided to help build on the information we introduce at the training.

After the training, you will be eligible to attend our monthly bird surveys that will take place along the Sepulveda Basin.

*Attending this training is required to participate in our monthly bird surveys.
