At River’s Edge – Ocean Connections

Tune in to learn about the connection between the LA River and the Pacific Ocean!

Join FoLAR for our final premiere of video content illustrating the vital connection between the Lower River and the Pacific Ocean!

Our friends at the Aquarium of the Pacific will introduce their resident birds and take viewers on a virtual tour of the Steelhead Story Exhibit. Viewers will then hear from a local Chumash storyteller who will discuss the LA River as LA’s original “freeway” and share how inland and coastal Indigenous tribes would construct canoes out of tule, a plant native to our local riparian habitat, to collect abalone and shells to trade. Finally, viewers will get a crash course on everything you need to know to run your own socially distant, self-guided community cleanup, before being guided through an hour-long yoga session to relax and ground ourselves.
