And many employers may unwittingly or even purposefully favor the workaholic over others. ) Addiction to work or to what makes hard work happen was and is too often courted and even encouraged by employers of both yesteryear and of today.

We must pause to look at caffeine here. So common is caffeine addiction that we tend not to think it exists. Yet this condition is age old and only growing over time. Caffeine is perhaps the best example of how insidious and pervasive the addicted state can be. So let’s dig into the workings of this everyday addiction. As early as 3000 BC in ancient China, if not prior to that, caffeine was a popular drug. Early cultures discovered that the chewing and ingestion of caffeine-containing plants and seeds resulted in desirable mood-altering and stimulatory effects.
