Again, dancers should exit and reenter to make any change in what they are doing, even to add sound to a repetitive movement. Observations In this problem the dancers are asked to incorporate design, rhythm, and floor pattern progressively into the improvisation, so that it is a good exercise in integrating skills.

This may be done, for example, by swinging his partner's hand, pushing his partner's hip with his own hip, or pushing his partner's shoulder with his hand. The partner should follow through only as much as the impulse genuinely requires, without either resisting or adding movement. After each movement the active dancer should allow his partner to be still before giving the next impulse. 3. As above, the active dancer gives movement impulses to his partner. 13 Preliminaries ACTIVE/PASSIVE GROUP Procedure This can be done by the whole group at once, or some of the group can watch. U sing the active/passive skills practiced in the last exercise, dancers may at will choose between the active and passive roles. They should consider the activity of the whole group in deciding when to change from one role to the other. An apparently passive dancer may surprise another dancer by suddenly becoming active. Active dancers may relate to each other as well as to the passive dancers.
