We might also say that one may come out "unworthily," that is, for the wrong reasons, without discernment of the sacred quality of the act and of one's relationships. An example of this is the angry gay activist who decided to come out on a television talk show, notifying his family (who in turn alerted their friends in their small hometown) to watch the programall without divulging he was gay and that that was the show's focus. One can imagine that everyone involved in that hurtful scenario suffered a diminished capacity for discerning the sacred nature of the revelation and of those relationships.
