Description: The Los Feliz CleanUp site is located in the scenic Glendale Narrows, the central and longest natural area of the LA River. The site features a beautiful welcoming gate, a pocket park, native landscaping, and the 2002 Alex Baum Bicycle Bridge. The soft-bottom river has tall willow trees, and plenty of ducks and other waterfowl.
Special Notes: Convenient lunch spot at the riverside Los Feliz Cafe.
DIRECTIONS:
Bike: Located across from the Alex Baum Bridge on the Glendale Narrows LA River Bike Path.
Transit: Take Metro line 180/181 and get off at the corner of Glenfeliz and Los Feliz or take Metro line 780 and get off at the corner of Los Feliz and Riverside / Crystal Springs, walk northeast to the River.

Location Specifics: CleanUp is on the northeast side of the River, adjacent to the Fletcher Drive Bridge.

Description: The Fletcher Drive, where FoLAR River School Day CleanUp site is located in the scenic Glendale Narrows, the central and longest natural area of the LA River. The site features two beautiful welcoming gates, pocket parks, native landscaping, and the historic Fletcher Drive Bridge (completed in 1927). The soft bottom river is home to ducks, cormorants, and more waterfowl.
Special Notes: All other sites are Saturday only, this site is Friday only. Friday is FoLAR’s River School Day where we bring hundreds of local students down to the river to learn about habitat, safety, nature, and much more. The general public is also welcome to come on Friday and CleanUp.
DIRECTIONS:
Bike: Located at the downstream end of the Glendale Narrows LA River Bike Path.
Transit: Take Metro line 603 and get off at Ripple Street. Cross the bridge.
Driving: Take the 2 Freeway, exit San Fernando Road. Go northwest on San Fernando one block, then turn left onto Fletcher Drive.
Parking: Parking is limited. Some on-street parking is available on Fletcher Drive, as well as in adjacent neighborhood streets, including Larga Avenue.

Over 500 middle and high school students from as far as Pasadena and Brentwood came together to pull 5,280 lbs of trash from the Los Angeles River at the Willow Street Estuary in Long Beach. Participating schools include Jordon H.S., Lakewood H.S., The New City School, Environmental Charter, Westridge School for Girls, and Brentwood School . The El Dorado Nature Center , The Algalita Marine Research Foundation, Windows on our Waters’ Tidepool Cruiser, and Heal the Bay also joined us that day with displays educating students about wetland restoration, plastics in the environment, the river ocean connection, and storm drain run-off. Other event sponsors include the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, the Conservation Corps of Long Beach, Yosemite Waters, Cypress Park , the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Association, and the Capital Group. Thank you all for donating your time and making this such a successful event!!!

Directions: From the 5 fwy exit Los Feliz Blvd. East. Turn right on Glenfeliz Blvd. At the fork in the road veer right onto Valleybrink. Turn right at Sunnynook. Street parking.

Location Specifics: Marsh Street Park is located at the northeast end of Marsh Street in Elysian Valley.

Description: Marsh Street is the newest Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy / Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority LA River mini-park, with its initial phase opening April 2006. The first phase is about 1 acre (of a planned 5-acre park) and features native landscaping, children’s play area and access to one of the nicest stretches of scenic soft bottom river. This year Marsh Park is going to be the official Bicycle site! We’re bringing the 6ft trailer to haul the bags from the River bank to the trash bin! Ride a bike and come CleanUp!
Special Notes: Limited parking - consider riding your bicycle!
DIRECTIONS:
Bike: Located just downstream of the 2 Freeway on the unofficial bike path (actually an old access road - careful - some uneven surfaces!) just downstream from the end of the Glendale Narrows LA River Bike Path.
Transit: Take Metro line 603 and get off at Ripple Street. Enter the river at the Great Heron Gate, and walk downstream past the 2 Freeway.
Driving: Exit the 5 Freeway at Stadium Way / Riverside Drive. Go northeast on Riverside Drive. Turn right onto Newell Street, then left on Ripple Street. Turn right on Marsh Street and proceed to the end of the street.
Parking: Limited street parking on Marsh Street.

Location Specifics: The Taylor Yard CleanUp site is located at the southeast end of the unnamed access road off San Fernando Road near Future Street.

Description: Taylor Yard, a former 220+acre rail yard with about 3 miles of living riverfront represents the single greatest opportunity for riverfront restoration along the entire 52 miles of the Los Angeles River. Two large areas (over 60 acres) of Taylor Yard have been purchased by California State Parks, with an additional 40+acre purchase being considered. The initial 40-acre park at the site is under construction and expected to open in early 2007 (a joint project of State Parks and LA City’s Recreation and Parks). The CleanUp site is along one of the very nicest stretches of soft bottom river, with tall trees and lots of ducks and other birds.Special Notes: This area is not yet generally open to the public. FoLAR obtains permits to use the site for our CleanUp.
DIRECTIONS:
Bike: There is no River Bike Path on this side of the River in this area. There are convenient bike lanes on Cypress Avenue and Eagle Rock Blvd. From Cypress Avenue, go southwest on Elm Street. Carefully cross San Fernando Road, and continue southwest on the unnamed access road.Transit: Take Metro lines 90/91 or Metro line 94 on San Fernando Road.
Driving: Take the 2 Freeway, exit at San Fernando Road in Glassell Park. Go southeast on San Fernando. Immediately past the new State Park (currently a large construction site), turn right onto the unnamed access road. Alternately, take the 110 Freeway, exit at North Figueroa / Avenue 26. Go northwest on Avenue 26. Turn right onto San Fernando Road. Just past Elm Street, turn left onto the unnamed access road.Parking: Park in the vacant lot where the access road turns left.

Location Specifics: Steelhead Park is located at the end of Oros Street, just north of Riverside Drive.

Description: Steelhead Park is one a series of about a dozen small parks along the LA River in the Glendale Narrows. Designed by North East Trees, the park features native vegetation, a small outdoor classroom, and artistic gates and fences commemorating the steelhead trout that used to be plentiful in the LA River. The river here is soft bottom, with tall trees and plenty of ducks, stilts, and other critters.
Special Notes: Limited parking - consider biking, taking transit, or carpooling.
DIRECTIONS:
Bike: Located at the downstream end of the unofficial bike path (actually an old access road - careful - some uneven surfaces!) downstream from the end of the Glendale Narrows LA River Bike Path.
Transit: Take Metro line 96 and get off at the corner of Elmgrove Street and Riverside Drive, then walk two blocks southeast to Oros. Alternately, take the Metro Gold Line and get off at Lincoln Heights/Cypress Park (Avenue 26) Station. Walk northwest two blocks on Avenue 26. Turn left on North Figueroa. Cross the Riverside/Figueroa Bridge, and continue upstream on the River two blocks to Steelhead Park at Oros Street.
Driving: Take the 5 Freeway. Exit at Stadium Way / Riverside Drive. Go southeast on Riverside Drive. Turn left at Oros Street.
Parking: Limited street parking on Oros, Blake, Riverside or other neighborhood streets.
